What is an RSS Feed?

You may have been seeing those little RSS or XML buttons on Internet pages. If you were wondering what they are, they are newsfeeds.

It's the next big thing - you can use it to get newsfeeds from great sites like CNN or MSN, as well as anything else such as news on upcoming movies, CD and DVD releases, and your favorite musical tour updates.

Once you get started, it's like having your favorite parts of the Web come right to your desktop. No need to go out and check for updates all the time.

RSS means Really Simple Syndication. What it means to you is that when you subscribe to a site that has an RSS feed, you can keep up-to-date without having to check the site every day, week, or month.

How do I get started? ... Easy!
First download a free RSS Reader. This is a special software that reads the RSS feeds. There are many available on the Internet so you'll have to find the one you like. The following links will take you to the ones listed in the Google Directory.

RSS Readers for Windows
RSS Readers for Mac

Once you're set up, here's all you have to do:

Right-click (control-click for Mac users) on any orange RSS or XML button on a site, blog or news source that interests you. Start by right-clicking on the orange button below.

XML / RSS Right click to get started.

Select Copy Shortcut ("Copy Link to Clipboard" for Mac, "Copy Link Location" for Firefox browsers), and paste that URL into your RSS Reader.

And that's it! You're subscribed. Your RSS reader will automatically let you know whenever there is new content on that site.

What if I don't want to download any more software?
